Kathmandu, June 30: The Curriculum Development Centre (CDC), under the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MOEST), has sought clarifications from the publishers and the schools’ operators after it found negligence on their parts regarding contents, colours, prices, among others, of the textbooks for the new academic session.
Ganesh Prasad Bhattarai, CDC director, said during the monitoring the team found that many books were selling textbooks with old map without incorporating Lipulekh and Kalapani.
Likewise, some schools have overburdened students with inappropriate and unnecessary books. Some have even prescribed translated book that should be taught in Nepali medium, Bhattarai said,
With the start of the academic session, the monitoring done by the team on Saturday and Sunday found distortion in the printed textbook, parents burdened with extra price and children having to read a lot of books.
Suprabhat Bhandari, chairperson of the Guardians Federation and member of the committee, said that the price of the book was blackened to add a new price.
He further said some schools were using black and white books instead of colour books, which is illegal. The Sanjivani publication published ‘Moral Education’ book with Rhododendron, Nepal's national flag and Nepal's map in black and white.
The CDC has banned the distribution of such textbooks for now.
