Dolpa, Nov 19 : CC cameras have been installed at various alpine meadows in the district for wildlife conservation and census. Dolpa is the largest district in the mountainous region of the country.
Fifty such cameras have been installed at the alpine meadows at Jagadulla Rural Municipality and several other meadows for this purpose. The CCTV cameras have been installed with the financial support of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
CCTV cameras have been installed in places inhabited by the snow leopard. CCTV cameras have been fitted in Kagmara, Tangtunge, Bahiri Puduwa, Bhitri Puduwa, Antar Puduwa, Thuli Palti and Jagadulla, among other alpine meadows, the Shey Phoksundo National Park has stated.
Three thousand blue sheep have been counted with the help of CCTV cameras, it is learnt. According to the Shey Phoksundo National Park the cameras have been installed for the main purpose of conserving and monitoring the activities of the wildlife, especially the snow leopard and its security. It is also expected to control poaching activities.
Shey Phoksundo national park is the largest wildlife sanctuary in the country. Much of it is spread in Dolpa and partly in Mugu. It is home to 200 species of birds including the pheasants, lophophorus, eagle etc, six species of reptiles and 32 species of butterflies, besides a wide array of other wild animals including the snow leopard.
