Kathmandu, Apr. 21: The trend of defying the lockdown in Kathmandu has sharply declined after the police administration in coordination with the community volunteers started implementing the restriction.

According to the one week data (April 13 to 19), 2,993 people had defied the lockdown on April 13 (Baisakh 1) whereas only 1,233 had defied it on April 19.

On April 15, 3,267 people along with 774 women were nabbed for violating the lockdown, and it was the highest number of people nabbed on a single day of the week, according to Pokhrel.
“Cases of lockdown violation have been falling every day in the valley after we mobilised local level volunteers in the municipalities level and city areas to cooperate with the police,” DIG Pokhrel said.
The practice of violating the lockdown in the valley was high especially outside the ring road and newly developed city areas where there used to low mobility and presence of police, he said.
Knowing this, the MPO joined hands with the local volunteers under community-police partnership programme of Nepal Police to implement the lockdown effectively, DIG Pokhrel said.
