Nepalgunj, Dec. 22: Blanket and warm clothes were distributed to poor, helpless and needy elderly citizens in Nepalgunj as they were facing problem with the dipping mercury in winter season.
Two different welfare organisations--Freedom Fighter Ramgopal Baishya Memorial Academy and Kashaudhan Baishya Society--jointly distributed warm clothes to the beggars and needy people living around Bagheshwori Temple.
Most of the elderly citizens who had received blanket, pillow and warm clothes now had nothing previously to fight the chilling winter cold. Chairmen of both organisations and journalist Achheri Paudel distributed the materials to the people at the temple.
Journalist Paudel said that needy elderly citizens who were begging in the temple and around it were given the warm clothes to protect themselves from the cold. “They had nothing to battle with decreasing temperature of this winter, we wanted to save them from the cold," she said after distributing the warm clothes.
They had a plan of distributing blanket, pillow and warm clothes for the needy around Nepalgunj Municipality. Most of the needy received their warm clothes and those who failed to get the clothes this time would get them from their offices, they said.
Cold affects the poor first in every winter because they had nothing to protect themselves from the declining temperature.
Meanwhile, District Administration Office (DAO) Banke also asked NGOs and other organisations to distribute blankets, firewood, warm clothes and other required materials to the poor and needy in the district.
Stating that protecting the needy people from the cold was the need of this hour, the DAO asked locals to stay safe at their places.
Hospitals have recorded increasing cases of cold-caused diseases among children and elderly citizens in last few days as the temperature started falling sharply over the days.
