Sindhupalchok, Dec. 20: Testing of Upper Balefi ‘A’ Hydroelectricity Project in the district has started by filling water in its dam.
Umesh Kasaju of the project said that the water is reserved in the dam to test whether there were any problems in the operation of the 36-Megawatt project developed in Balefi River.
“All the equipment are installed so the project is being tested by filling the water in it. It will take about a couple of weeks for the complete test of the hydropower plant,” he said.
After the completion of the internal test, water will be sent into the tunnels and pipes. According to Kasaju, if all equipment and structures are sound, electricity generation will start after a month.
The project aimed at generating electricity in June 2020 but floods in the last monsoon and coronavirus pandemic disturbed the construction of the project.
It has three electricity generation units – each 12 Megawatts. Electricity produced by the project will be connected with the national grid at Lamo Sanghu Sub Station, about 22 KM away from the project site.
The project is developed at the cost of Rs. 5 billion, and five banks have made investments in it.
