Baitadi, Nov. 18: Local children are compelled to risk their lives crossing the Surnaya River at Sigas Rural Municipality in Baitadi to reach their school.
A massive flood of mid-October had swept away two bridges at Nwaadhari Gaad, depriving a large number of students of Ganesh Secondary School from attending school.
The local students have been forced to use a makeshift wooden bridge to get across the river, risking their lives.
Surendra Saud, a local, said as immediate construction of the bridge was not possible, locals had kept some wooden logs over the river at two places to help students cross the river and attend the school.
Chairman of Sigas Rural Municipality Hari Singh Dhami said the flood had caused widespread damage in the municipality. Dhami said that the municipality had immediately allocated Rs. 500,000 to reconstruct bridges at Nwaadhari Gaad and road connecting Deura of Bajhang.
Similarly, the flood had also swept away the bridge over at Deuthla, Surnaya Rural Municipality -7 and 8. The locals of both wards are facing a hard time moving to and from their neighbouring villages.
People of Kathmandu, Jhadwo, Sela and other villages are compelled to cross the river on makeshift rafts.
