Kathmandu, Feb. 27: Nepal Academy of Music and Drama has observed the 83rd birth anniversary of popular musician and first Chancellor of the Academy Amber Gurung on Thursday by organising a musical programme on the premises of the Academy in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.
Deputy Chancellor of the Academy Harihar Sharma said that musician Amber Gurung was a great personality who had dedicated his whole life to the nation through music.
“Amber Gurung was a versatile musician who had given music to various songs from love to national anthems. His fame in Nepali music rose with his timeless song Naulakha Tara Aakashma…,” he added.
Addressing the programme, lyrist and journalist Raman Ghimire said that Gurung was a self-centric musician. He also shed light on Gurung’s struggle while he was in Darjeeling.
Gurung’s songs including “Hey Kanchha”, “Ma Amber Timi Dharti”, “Samhaler Rakha Samhaler Rakha”, “Hosiryaar Samayako Bhidma Aaphulaai China”, “Mero Aakhama Rakne Phoolbaari Chhaina” have been popular among the audience both in Nepal and India.
