By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Jan. 8: Arrested 122 Chinese nationals in Kathmandu were deported to their own country on Wednesday evening via two chartered flights, according to the Department of Immigration.
In absence of extradition treaty between Nepal and China, the arrested Chinese nationals were deported to their homeland after 17 days of their arrest in Kathmandu.
Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) in presence of some Chinese security personnel had conducted a joint operation on Deecember 23 in Kathmandu’s 10 different homes to bust them.
The Kathmandu Police detained them for their alleged involvement in financial and cyber-crime against their home country staying in Nepal.
Prior to their deportation, the arrested Chinese nationals were taken to the TIA on public buses from Maharajgunj-based Metropolitan Police Circle and Budhanilkantha-based Metropolitan Police Circle.
According to director at the DoI and information officer Ramchandra Tiwari, of the total detainees, 42 of them were first deported from the flight of China Eastern (MU7176) and remaining 80 were taken from flight China Southern (CZ3002) in the second fleet.
The second lot of 80 Chinese nationals were kept at Metropolitan Police Circle in Sorhakhutte and Singhadurbar-based Metropolitan Police Circles, and Metropolitan Police Range, Teku.
The chartered flight of China Eastern will take them to Kunming while China Southern will go to Guangzhou.
Kathmandu District Administration Office on Sunday had charged them Rs. 1,000 as fine under indecent behavior charge and released them.
These two airways had taken permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to land at Nepali airport few days ago.
Most of the detained Chinese had come to Nepal on tourist visas.
Meanwhile, some eight senior Chinese police officers had also come to Nepal for the deportation preparation of the detained Chinese nationals. According to SSP Uttam Ram Subedi, the responsibility of all deported Chinese nationals goes to the hand of Chinese security officials after Kathmandu Police handed them over at the airport.
According to the police, the Chinese security officials have given information to Nepal Police that there were over 1,000 Chinese nationals staying in Nepal and doing cross-border crime in China.
