Jhapa, Jan 4 : Agro Centre Pvt Ltd has started providing farmer's identity cards so as to distribute fertilizer, seeds and agriculture inputs to the needy farmers at a subsidized price.
The centre based in Jhapa rural municipality-3 had developed general criteria for the distribution of ID card on a pilot basis. This is so far the first organization in the district to distribute farmer ID cards.
Centre chairperson Chandra Prasad Basnet said the ID cards were distributed to incentivize farmers and attract youths to agriculture.
The center has stipulated certain eligibility criteria for obtaining the ID card. Among the key criteria are having Nepali citizenship certificate, permanent residence of Nepal, agriculture dependant livelihood, placement of electric meter at home, details reflecting landowner identify, and the person with no criminal offense.
So far the centre has distributed ID cards to 25 farmers of the rural municipality. The token system would be introduced after the distribution of ID cards, the center sources said.
