Kathmandu, Nov. 2: The festival season of Dashain and Tihar has been a time when gambling thrives more than ever throughout the country leading the authorities to intensify their action in mitigating the illegal gambling. The situation was no different during Dashain this year; police arrested 100 gamblers from across the country in two days.
Nepal Police arrested 93 gamblers from different places of the country on Saturday alone.
On Saturday morning, a joint team of Sudurpaschim State Police, Kailali District Police and local police arrested 29 gamblers from the house of Yagya Bahadur Bista at Ward 1 of Joshipur Gaunpalika. They also confiscated Rs. 251,400.
Likewise, 40 gamblers were arrested from the Kathmandu Valley alone on Saturday. The Metropolitan Police Beat, Swayambhu, arrested 10 gamblers from Ward 15 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City on Saturday afternoon with Rs. 153,500.
Similarly, 18 gamblers were arrested from Ward 7 of Mahalaxmi Municipality in Lalitpur with more than Rs 1.1 million by the Metropolitan Police Beat, Satdobato. The Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur arrested 12 individuals while they were playing cards at the house of Madhav Suwal in Ward 10 of Bhaktapur Municipality. They were arrested with Rs. 110,500.
On the other side, a police team from Morang District Police and State 1 Police Office arrested five gamblers with Rs. 889,250 from the house of Bhupendra Bhattarai in Kerabari Gaunpalika.
The Area Police Office, Bhanumukam Dumre, arrested 16 gamblers from Ward 10 of Bhanu Municipality in Tanahun with Rs. 48,270 on Saturday morning.
Police also arrested three individuals from Manarashiswa Municipality with kauda (a gambling item) and Rs. 332,960 on Saturday morning.
The officers stated that the gambling, which is illegal and spoils life many individuals and their family members, thrives during the festival season every year.
