Nawalparasi, Dec. 3: More women and children have gone missing from East Nawalparasi in the recent years.
In the last four months of the current fiscal year, 92 women and children had gone missing from the district.
According to Women Cell under the District Police Office, altogether 241 people, including 10 boys and 42 girls went missing from the district last year alone. Among them, only 119 people, including eight boys and 30 girls were found.
Similarly, from July to October this year, 64 women, 12 girls, 13 boys and three senior citizens were found missing from the district, according to police.
Among them, only six women, nine boys and eight girls were found, said Rajendra Prasad Adhikari, police inspector at the District Police Office in East Nawalparasi.
He said that the whereabouts of 53 women and children who went missing was still unknown.
Women, girls and children topped the list of missing, he added.
Most of the women and girls, who were said to have gone missing, were married and most of the children left their house were supposed to be victimised by the family, the official said.
Most of the children left the house because they could not bear the psychological suffering, police said.
“It is suspected that the women and children who went missing were trafficked to neighbouring country,” police said.
