As many as 1,319 cases of Violence against Women (VAW) were recorded in Nepal last fiscal year, according to a documentation unveiled by WOREC.
The Women's Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC), an organization working for the protection and promotion of human right, documented and analyzed that among them, 66.72 per cent (880) women faced domestic violence of various forms.
Marking the first day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence today, WOREC made public its publication named Anbeshi stated that 11.98 per cent (158) women experienced social violence while cases of rape against women and girl child stood at 10.84 per cent (143).
Similarly, cases of attempted rape were recorded at 1.36 per cent (18) while cases of sexual violence against women were reported to be 4.70 per cent (62).
WOREC executive director Lubharaj Neupane said that the figures related to domestic violence and social violence had clearly indicated that women were facing violence in many forms inside and outside of their houses.
Similarly, WOREC president Jyotsana Maskey shared that efforts were underway to expand the parameter of documentation and analysis and incorporate sexually marginalized, women with disability and women with health issues as well as various dimensions of women movements.
WOREC has been annually publishing Anbeshi since 2008.
