Biratnagar, April 13: The local government in Morang district has distributed a total of 1,226,977 kilograms of rice to the daily wagers and impoverished families since the enforcement of nationwide lockdown on March 24.
The daily wagers have been hardest hit due to the stay-at-home order enforced to contain the outbreak of COVID-19. The relief materials include rice, lentils, vegetables and other daily consumables items such as soaps, according to the District Police Office (DPO), Morang.
Biratnagar metropolitan city, three other municipalities and 13 rural municipalities in the district distributed the relief packages to those losing their jobs due to the lockdown, informed District Office Morang’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Man Bahadur Rai.
A total of 28,760 households were benefited with the relief packages, police said.
