NC 14th General Convention: second round of election for party president
By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec. 14: The vote count of the second phase of the election held for the post of President of the Nepali Congress in the ongoing 14th General Convention of the party is slated to begin from 9:30 this evening.
Keshav Rijal, secretary of the central election committee of the NC, informed that the count of the votes cast for electing the party president is scheduled to begin at half-past nine with the estimate the vote cast will end by 8 pm.
He said the result of the vote count is likely to be announced by 1 am tomorrow, Wednesday.
The second round of the election for the president had started from 3 pm today as no one of the five candidates vying for the post could not secure a 50% plus vote in the first round of the election held on Sunday.
In the second round, incumbent NC president Sher Bahadur Deuba, also Prime Minister, and NC leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala are in the fray for the post. NC leaders, Prakash Man Singh, Bimalendra Nidhi, and Kalyan Gurung, who were also the candidates for the post of party president in the first round of the election, have left the ground and expressed their support for President Deuba.
