By TRN Online, Kathmandu, July 14: Two workers of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project have gone missing at Amathanka in Sindhupalchwok district.
They were deployed for the inspection of water leakage in the tunnel.
After the water leakage was identified in the 17th gate of the tunnel at around 1:00 PM on Tuesday, four men were deployed to inspect the tunnel. After the water force inside the tunnel hit them, two went missing while two were injured.
“Of the missing, one is working as driver in the project and the other is said to be a Chinese engineer of Sino Hydropower Project, this detail is yet to be verified,” said Rajendra Panta, spokesperson of the project.
The incident might have happened after the force of water used to test the tunnel destroyed the gate, said Panta. “The water level has decreased in the tunnel and we have started searching the missing workers,” he added.
The injured workers are receiving treatment in Melamchi Health Post. They will be airlifted to Kathmandu via Shree Air’s helicopter, said Panta.
