Kathmandu, Dec 17:
'The Rising Nepal' (TRN), the first and foremost English national daily, published by Gorakhapatra Sansthan celebrated its 54th anniversary today.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Baskota was the chief guest of the function, organised by TRN.
Minister Baskota said that the citizens were influenced by biased journalism as media houses were utterly influenced by prvatisation and commercialisation.
The mainstream media houses are duty-bound to serve fact based contents to the public, said Baskota.
He said that TRN and Gorkhapatra Corporation, on the whole was the bridge connecting the government with the general public.
Baskota called journalists and writers to exercise the practice of constructive criticism in their writings. “The media houses should criticise the government on the basis of facts, without showcasing rumors,” Minister said.
He called all the concerned officials of the Gorkhapatra Corporation to work harder, in oider to uphold the legacy it holds.
In the event, senior Journalists such as Dr. Taranath Sharma, P Kharel, Devraj Dahal, Bijaya Lal Shrestha, Lokdeep Thapa, Jwahar Krishna Manandhar, and Aditya Man Shrestha were honored for their outstanding contribution to development of TRN.
The publication of TRN had commenced on Push 1, 2022 BS (December 16, 1965), on initiation of King Mahendra.
