By Keshabraj Paudel/Bidur Acharya, Kathmandu, Aug. 14: It has come to be known that the residents of disaster-hit Lidi village in Jugal Rural Municipality-2 in Sindhupalchowk district had feared possibility of landslide coming over them some day and urged the concerned authorities to transfer them from the risky area.
The villagers had appealed to the local level government as well as the district administration to shift their settlement as there was high risk of landslides because of the multiple rifts and faults in the slope above their settlement.
They were also apprehensive of disaster due to the construction of the Balefi A hydropower at the lower part of their village.
Pratap Lama, Chair of Jugal Rural Municipality Ward No. 2, said that he had told the meeting of the Executive of the rural municipality that 149 houses of his Ward were at risk of landslides and demanded to shift the settlement.
"We have even reached out to the Chief District Officer (CDO) and submitted our appeal to him to shift our settlement," he said.
Nearly three dozen have gone missing while dead bodies of eight persons have been recovered from the landslides site where 13 houses were buried on Friday morning.
Feeling very unsafe to continue living in the village, the locals had come to the district headquarters and submitted the application for transferring their settlement on August 7 after their repeated appeals were not responded timely and positively by the local level.
