Janarjan Khatri, Sarlahi, Jan 3: Sanat Kumar Mahato of Hariyon Municipality- 5, Ghurkauli, spent a decade as a foreign labourer in Qatar and Malaysia before he returned home and began buffalo farming.
He is happy now that he makes a lakh rupees a month from animal husbandry which he started two years ago with subsidized loan from Agriculture Development Bank, Hariyon branch.
Besides buffalo farming, Mahato also runs a Milk Collection Center and purchases the milk produced by the other villagers.
After returning from abroad, Mahato constructed a buffalo shed from his earning and took a loan from the Bank to buy buffalos.
'I spent 10 years in Qatar and Malaysia before I returned to Nepal. I had thought of buffalo farming. So I made buffalo shed in the village but my earnings were only sufficient to make buffalo shed, not for buying buffalos.' Mahato said.
'I put the issue with the bank and the bank staffers managed loan for me after inspecting my buffalo shed. Finally, that loan changed my life.' He added.
Now, Mahato has 19 buffalos, small and big, in his farm.
He purchases 450 to 500 liters of milk from the farmers of the village daily.
The milk that is produced from his own farm and collected from villagers is sold out from his dairy of Hariyon bazaar.
Milk from Mahato's diary is very popular as he has installed an advanced machine to check pure milk and the milk diluted with water.
He has a bulk milk cooler machine too.
Mahato doesn't have any problem with a veterinary technician as his brother is a JTA.
'Brother Ram Prabodh studied the JTA course. Now he takes care of buffalos. I have been helped by parents and wife.' Mahato said.
He shared he earns a lakh rupees a month.
Under the subsidised loan, 5 percent interest is paid from the government side and the remaining 4 percent is paid by the farmer.
Agriculture Development Bank's Hariyon Branch Manager Shailendra Ghimire said that Mahato's hard-working made him successful in buffalo farming.
'We had managed a loan for him just because of his attachment toward buffalo farming and laborious nature while constructing the shed.' Ghimire said.
