By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Sept. 28: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday issued three ordinances.
"On the basis of recommendation of the meeting of the Council of Ministers, President Bhandari authenticated three ordinances today," said Hari Prasad Dahal, spokesperson of the Office of the President.
According to spokesperson Dahal, the President authenticated Acid and Other Lethal Chemical Substance (Regulation) Ordinance, 2077, Ordinance amending few acts relating to criminal law and criminal procedure, 2077 and Nepal Police and State Police (work operation, supervision and coordination) first amendment Ordinance, 2077.
The press statement issued by spokesperson Dahal states that the ordinances were endorsed by the President on the recommendation of the government, in line with Article 114(1) of the Constitution.
As the cases of acid attack were increasing in recent years, the government, through the ordinance, has imposed additional punishment against the perpetrators of acid attack by amending the existing legislation on acid attack. The ordinance provisions that imprisonment up to 20 years and fine up to Rs. 1 million could be slammed on the perpetrators of acid attack.
