By Tara Chapagain Dube, Pokhara, June 25: After the locals obstructed the police in burying dead body of a COVID-19 patient by burning tyre in Pokhara Metropolitan City-32, the Police opened six rounds of blank fire to take the situation under control.

Two motorcycles were damaged in the scuffle between the local and the police and another motorcyle was thrown off the cliff.

“Two policemen were injured in the incident and eight locals have been arrested,” informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Subash Hamal of Kaski District Police Office.

Preparations to bury the body in Seti River bank at Gagangauda Area, Lamtara, using JCV excavator was underway while the scuffle took place.

The locals opposed to burying the body falsely believing that the threat of spread of virus would intensify in the area.

Dead body of COVID-19 patient of other area is being buried in our area, further increasing the risk of virus spread, the locals complained.
