Plasma therapy and Remdesivir effective in two COVID-19 patients

By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, Sept. 3: Two COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in two hospitals of Banke, who were in critical health condition, have shown improvements after being medicated with Remdesivir anti-viral and after undergoing plasma therapy.

A 29-year-old male COVID-19 patient of Sharada Municipality-6, Salyan, admitted to the Bheri Hospital, showed some improvement after undergoing plasma therapy. This was the first plasma therapy done in the Bheri Hospital.

Likewise, the health condition of a 48-year-old male COVID-19 patient of Dhangadhi, receiving treatment at Kohalpur Medical College, Nepalgunj, improved after being medicated with Remdesivir.

Dr. Khagendra Sah, focal person for plasma therapy in Bheri Hospital, said that the hospital decided to provide plasma therapy to the 29-year-old virus infected on Tuesday, as he was in critical condition.

"He started showing improvements within three days of the therapy. We will remove the oxygen support from Thursday," said Dr. Sah.

Pramod Rijal, ward chair of Nepalgunj-1, who had recovered from the virus infection, had donated the plasma.

Four patients medicated with Remdesivir

Meanwhile, four virus-infected patients in Nepalgunj Medical College Teaching Hospital, who was in serious health condition, have started showing improvement after they were medicated with Remdesivir anti-viral from Tuesday.

The Remdesivir was medicated by a team of doctors including Dr. Sandesh Pandit, led by Dr. Shyam BK.

The virus infected patient, who is a high-level official of the judiciary has been given five doses of Remdesivir, said Dr. BK.

A massive improvement is seen in his health condition, he added.

Dr. BK said that other virus patients were also being medicated with Remdesivir.
