By Gopi Gyawali, Nawalparasi, Apr. 21: Over 100 vultures, which are on the verge of extinction, were found dead in Jitpur of Parasi the headquarters of Nawalparasi (West).
Sambhu Upadhyaya, a local of Ramgram Municipality, informed that over 100 dead vultures were found in an open land behind Palhi Campus, Jitpur in Ramgram Municipality-4.
The reason behind the death of the nature cleaners in such a huge number is still unknown.
As a dog was also found dead in the same area, it has been suspected that the vultures must've died after feeding on the dog's carcass, which could be poisonous. However, the exact reason behind the death of vultures is yet to be ascertained.
If an animal dies after being injected with Diclofenac medicine, which is used as a pain-killer during the treatment of animals, then any vultures who eat carcasses of the animals also die.
The Diclofenac medicine has been banned in Nepal however, due to the open border, it has been suspected that the medicine might have been imported from India.
Human rights activist and social campaigner Brij Raj Kushwaha said, "The death of hundreds of vultures at once in the Chure Hill area located in the upper region of eastern and western Nawalparasi has drawn concerns of many nature lovers."
He also demanded a detailed investigation to find out the reason behind the death of over 100 vultures.
