By Sahadev Basnet, Khalanga, July 10: A person was killed and two houses were swept away by the landslides that occurred at Sarki Tole, Barekot Rural Municipality-4 in Jajarkot. As many as 11 persons have gone missing in the rain-induced natural disaster.
Govinda Bahadur Singh, Chief Administrative Officer of Barekot Rural Municipalty, informed that the landslide triggered by incessant rainfall had swept away Gopal Sarki and Kalu Sarki’s house.
“Of the twelve who went missing, a dead body has been found which is yet to be identified,” said Singh.
According to Ward Chair Srijana Basnet, the missing are Gopal Sarki, 52, his wife Pushpa Sarki, 50, daughter Laxmi Sarki, 13 and 11-year old son Arjun Sarki and Kalu Sarki, 38, his daughters Tirkha Sarki, 14, Kamala Sarki, 11 and 6-year old son Subash Sarki.
Dilli Sarki, 20, Gauri Sarki, 14, Kabita Sarki, 16 and Birendra Sarki, 18, of Kushe-9, who had gone to visit their sister Kalu Sarki’s home, have also gone missing in the landslide, said Basnet.
Janak Raj Panta, Chief District Officer of Jajarkot, said that Ramidanda Area Police Office, and a team of police from Limsa were deployed for the search operation.
It takes two days to reach the place of incident on foot. Nepali Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police have been sent to Sarki Tole from headquarters, said CDO Panta.
