By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Mar. 15: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has implemented a new traffic lane system for private, public and heavy vehicles in the first eight-lane Koteshwor-Kalanki road section of Kathmandu from Sunday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and chief at the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Bhim Prasad Dhakal said that the left lanes should now be used by public and heavy vehicles only.

The right side lanes are allocated only for the private and small vehicles of all types, driving high speed vehicles, he said.

Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Janak Raj Dahal, Bhagirath Pandey of Lalitpur District Office and SSP Dhakal jointly inaugurated the new traffic system.

SSP Dhakal said that the new system was introduced for minimising increasing road accidents as in average 80 road accidents took place in the road section every month.

Superintendent of Police (SP) and spokesperson at MTPD Jeevan Kumar Shrestha said that the road accidents in the road section were increasing every month as the vehicle riders don’t abide by the traffic lane.

“Right traffic lane should be adopted when any driver enter their vehicle in the high speed and multiple lane road sections,” SP Shrestha said.

SP Shrestha said that they have hung notice boards in 30 different places along the road section giving information of the implementation of the new traffic rules.
