By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb. 28: Spokesperson of the main ruling Nepali Congress (NC) Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has viewed for proceeding ahead with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact as it has been endorsed by the parliament.
Dr. Mahat expressed thanks to all the parties in the ruling coalition for standing together to pass the MCC along with the interpretive declaration.
Speaking at the press meet at the NC's central office, Dr Mahat said that the interpretive declaration has clarified many confusions and disinformation related to the MCC.
"The USA has welcomed the ratification of the MCC along with the interpretive declaration," he said.
The NC spokesperson claimed that the main opposition CPN (UML) also had a positive perception of the MCC although it could not take part in the endorsement process due to 'technical reasons'.
"The basis for endorsing the MCC at this point has been created due to perseverance, mature dealing and presentation of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. We on behalf of the party would like to thank him for this. Nepali people have appreciated that the NC makes a mature decision," said the NC spokesperson.
He said that the MCC is a purely development assistance; it has no other motives and that this has been further clarified in the interpretive declaration along with the main document.
