By Netra Shahi, Jumla, Jan. 4: Normal life in Jumla district has been affected due to heavy snowfall.
A foot deep snow has fallen in the high mountainous region of the district while normal snowing has covered places in the lowland areas.
With the snowfall, hilltops and slopes are all white, and normal life has been affected as chilling cold has intensified.
In the district headquarters of Jumla, the rainfall that occurred at night turned into snow due to freezing in the morning.
Only a mild snowfall had occurred here last month.
The locals here expect heavy snowfall as the cold has increased.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority, all the airway services have been disrupted to Jumla due to snowing. The airport has been covered with snow and no aircraft can at the moment land or take off.
According to Ashampura Karki, chief of the Water and Meteorological Office, the minimum temperature here on Sunday was minus 3.8 degrees Celsius, but the temperature slightly rose to 0.6 degrees Celsius because of the changes in clouds and air temperature of the area.
Street people hit the most by the increasing cold
People living in the streets have been affected severely because of the continuous snowfall in Jumla District.
One woman, suffering from mental health problem and living in a cave in Chandannath Municipality-3 for a year, had the hardest time due to cold. The local administration said that they were trying to relocate the woman who says she hails from Dailekh district. However, the locals have demanded that she needs to be rescued immediately.
Similarly, another mentally ill person named Kamal from Kalikot has also been living in the vegetable market of Jungad stream for a long time. He too needs to be rescued at the earliest, according to the locals.
