By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 17: The government has extended the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown for 15 more days till June 2.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers held today at the PM's residence, Baluwatar, decided to extend the ongoing nationwide lockdown until June 2, informed Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada, Minister for Finance, Communications and Information Technology.
The ongoing lockdown was supposed to end on May 18.
As the threat of COVID-19 has been is on the rise in Nepal along with death of two people and growing number of infected people, the government said that it was appropriate to extend the lockdown.
The meeting of the High Level Coordination Committee (HLCC) held earlier today had recommended the government to extend the lockdown.
The committee had also recommended on issues such as removing indiscriminate and unncessary checkings and hindrances by local volunteers, mobilisation of the police force in all areas to ensure security and safety measures and proper management of supply of goods and also increasing the number of quarantines in local levels.
