By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Nov. 23: The Election Commission, Nepal, has objected to the way teachers, employees, and professors are found to have been elected as representatives of political parties for a general convention.

The EC has reminded the political parties of the provision in Clause 14 (2) of the Political Party Act 2017 wherein it is mentioned that no working teacher, government employee, or lecturer can be a member of a political party.

The Commission issued a statement today to remind the political parties of the legal provision.

The EC has decided to direct for taking legal action against those teachers, employees, and lecturers who have taken membership of a political party.

The Commission has also decided not to update details about the members and election of office bearers of a political party if the party is found to have included teachers, employees and lecturers in the list of members and office-bearers of its committees- district, provincial or others.

The Commission has decided to direct political parties to delist names of those who are legally restricted to be a member of a political party but have been included as members or in the district or provincial committees as the respective election offices will have to keep the records of such members or office bearers.
