By Our Correspondent, Humla, Jan. 27: Even though the temperature is 14 degrees below zero in Limi, two schools are continuing to take classes. Sunkhani Primary School and Bhrikuti Primary School did not close even when the nation was reeling under the coronavirus-induced lockdown and, having managed teachers through a private source, are not closed now. This private source is an American citizen who has taken care of the teachers’ salaries.
According to Khyandap Tamang, a local of Halji village, classes are still going on in the two schools of Namkha Rural Municipality - 6 despite the frigid cold. “Parents dress their wards up in warm clothes and send them to school so that they do not miss classes,” he said. “When the sun isn’t shining, the schools make fires to keep their pupils cosy.”
“We have continued with our classes by arranging warm clothes to protect the children from the icy temperatures,” Kunjol Tamang, a teacher at Sunkhani School, told The Rising Nepal.
Limi is the only place in the whole rural municipality where schools have not closed for the winter, stated Ward Chairman Paljor Tamang.
There are 54 students studying in Sunkhani and 12 in Bhrikuti.
