By Chandra Prakash Sharma, Pokhara, Apr. 16: The sixth COVID-19 patient of Nepal, a 65-year old lady, who has been receiving treatment in isolation at Dhaulagiri Zonal Hospital, Baglung has tested negative for COVID-19 in her third test.

The patient's third COVID-19 test done through Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) came negative today.

She had come to Nepal in the same flight with second and fifth COVID-19 patients of Nepal from Belgium.

"She will be discharged from the hospital, if she tests negative in the fourth test as well," said Dr. Shailendra B. Pokharel, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital.

As the global practice suggests that two COVID-19 tests of infected person must be negative to establish that the person has recovered, preparations of collecting swab and sending it to Pokhara for second test of the Baglung-based patient are being done.

"After confirming infection of COVID-19, we had admitted her in the isolation ward, even though her health condition was normal, her admission was lengthened after she tested positive for the virus second time also," said Dr. Pokharel. "As the third report is negative, we will discharge her by confirming it one more time."

Only the first COVID-19 patient of Nepal has recovered from the virus while second, third, fourth and fifth are still receiving treatment.

The swab test of everyone, who had come in contact with the lady had reported negative.

The fifth COVID-19 patient is also under treatment at Dhaulagiri Hospital, and she has been testing positive for the virus.
