By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Dec. 8: The updated height of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, is 8,848.86 meters.
The new height was disclosed jointly by Nepal and China amid a special ceremony on Tuesday. The height was measured by Nepal for the first time by using its manpower and resources in coordination with Chinese technicians and surveyors.
During Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit last year, Nepal and China had agreed to jointly announce the height.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on November 25 had given the approval to the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation to disclose the new height of Sagarmatha/Mt. Everest.
The widely accepted height of 8,848 meters was measured by India in 1954.
