By Tikaram Upreti, Jhapa, Apr. 30: Swab test of 280 people have been carried out in Jhapa following two confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Of them, 216 people tested negative for the virus in the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test till Thursday. 

Jiwan Chaulagain, focal person of Public Health Office, Jhapa, said, “Most of the swab samples tested by PCR technique in all 15 municipalities of Jhapa reported negative.”

Result of 62 Swab samples is yet to come, he added.

Two males of two different municipalities, one aged 62 from Damak Municipality and other aged 50 from Chachaki Bazar, which lies at the border of Bharadashi Rural Municipality 4 and 5 had tested positive for COVID-19.

Both of them have been receiving treatment in isolation at Koshi Hospital, Biratnagar.

According to the doctors, the health condition of both the patients is normal.

People whose test results are yet to come have been quarantined.  

In Jhapa, Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) of 950 people have been performed till the date.

Chaulagain informed that six out of 950 had tested positive for the virus.

Five COVID-19 suspects are from Damak Municipality and one is from Haldi Bari Rural Municipality.

The travel history and contact tracing have been formulated to map down the risks of the spread of virus. RDTs have been expanded in Jhapa since April 10.

Also after COVID-19 positive case was confirmed, Damak Municipality-3 was sealed.
