By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb 23: Social activist and Chairperson of Solidarity Publications Nilkantha Tiwari has donated a ropani of land for building the ward office of Ward No. 6 of Paiyun Rural Municipality in Parbat district.
The construction of the ward office has taken momentum with the donation of land.
A permanent resident of Saraukhola, ward no 6 of the rural municipality itself, Tiwari donated the well-irrigated land located at Sarau Phant Sota.
According to ward secretary Parashwor Sapkota, Tiwari had announced his willingness to donate land for the construction of the ward office at an all-party meeting of the locals, people's representatives, political parties' representatives, and local civil society activists.
Tiwari was jailed for political reasons in 1990, 1998, and 1999 and after resigning from his employment in 2001, he went underground for the movement for republican set up. Tiwari's reputation as a social campaigner got a new height following a Hatemalo labour camp in 2000 to open track in the much-disputed area at Pahiyunkhola along the Waling Huwas road. He had developed the concept of the camp and coordinated it by bringing together all political parties for development.
As the chairman of the Solidarity Publications, the media house that publishes news stories focusing on the Nepalis around the world, Tiwari is also a pioneer in Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) journalism.
