By Our Correspondent, Sunsari, Feb. 14: Three rape convicts have been sentenced to jail by the Sunsari District Court on Friday.
A 17-year-old teenager from Ramdhuni Municipality was sent to jail fpr 12 years and 7 months. The bench of Justice Radha Krishna Upreti also ordered Rs 10,000 to be provided as compensation to the victim.
The teenager had raped a 13-year-old girl on April 24 last year. He was arrested a day later after the victim filed a complaint at Area Police Office, Pakali.
Similarly, Lal Bahadur Basnet, a 37-year-old from Barahachhetra Municpality, was sentenced to 10 years of jail for raping a woman on September 18 last year.
“Basnet, who was arrested on the same day of the incident, was also ordered to provide Rs 25,000 as compensation to the victim by the bench of Justice Upreti,” said Gopal Giri, information officer of the court.
The bench of Justice Shankar Bahadur Rai also sentenced Tilak Acharya of Dharan for four years of jail for being found guilty of raping a woman on October 24, 2018.
Acharya was arrested the same day by Area Police Office, Dharan following a complaint by the victim.
