Gandaki, Aug 21: A team of the District Police Office, Kaski has arrested three persons for collecting donations under the pretext of treating kidney patients in different parts of the country. They had been collecting donations in the name of Unique Volunteers Nepal, Dharan, Sunsari.
Eliza Basnet, 34, of Birtamod, Dhan Bahadur Century, 44, of Haldibari and Tek Bahadur Basnet, 32, of Birtamod, Jhapa has been arrested.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Subash Hamal, they were arrested on the basis of a tip-off from the New Highway Staff Hotel and Lodge in Bijayapur, Pokhara Metropolitan City-26 along with receipts, leaflets and Rs. 460,406 in cash.
They were found collecting donations from Kaski, Tanahu, Syangja, Dailekh, Sunsari, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Palpa and other districts by renting 10 auto tempos in the name of 12 patients. They have been remanded to judicial custody under the Donations Act 2030 BS and necessary investigation is underway, DSP Hamal said.
