Born in 1978 in Mainapokhari, Dolakha, Ramesh Dahal is a lyricist who graduated in Environmental Science & Policy from the USA in 2013.
Contributing his artistic endeavors in more than 250 different Nepali Adhunik tracks, lyrics in English language and more than 850 published lyrics, the writer initiated his journey back in 1991 while participating in a school competition. And till date, Dahal continues to collaborate as well as expand his repertoire further.
From patriotic to environmental degradation, terrorism, struggles of the working class and love, his lyrics have assorted themes like his various life interests and hobbies, which the writer believes to be his strength in achieving this diverse creative palate.
Currently based in Surkhet District of Karnali, Dahal is also actively working on social issues in his locality such as advocating about climate change, preservation of natural resources, running research on more sustainable alternatives for farm culture and talking against ill-practices like child marriage.
The lyricists has already collaborated with some big names in the industry like Deep Shrestha, Shakti Ballav, Om Bikram Bista, Shiva Pariyar, Kali Prasad Rijal and his own nephew the contemporary pop sensation Sushant KC with whom he co-wrote the super hit track Herda Herdai.
In 2019, Dahal won the 2nd Sagarmatha Music Award and the 8th Prabhu Pay Music Khabar Award for the best national song of the year for the track ‘Janani Janma Bhumi’ sang by Sumit Khadka, music by Shakti Ballav Shrestha, arranged by Manohar Suman and mixed/recorded by Bhola Poudel.
In addition to this, the writer also won Best Pop Lyricist at the Industrial Peace Nepal Music Award 2019 and Best Patriotic Lyrics at the Genius Music Award 2018.
The lyricist has also been involved in creating traditional Nepali styled bridges (jhulunge pul) in many rural regions of the country especially in the Eastern districts like Khotang, Ramechap, Dolakha and Okhaldhunga among others.
He has already published two lyrical anthologies under his belt titled, ‘Baluwa Ko Ghar’ (2005) with 151 different pieces and ‘Heu Ko Phool’ (2018) including 70 various lyrics.
Apart from all his contributions, Dahal continues to enhance and promote the state of Nepali music through any medium possible in his nearly three decades’ career.
