Melamchi, Nov 3 : The number of people losing their lives in a bus accident at Sukute of Sindhupalchowk district today has reached 13.
They died on the spot, police said, adding that the bus was carrying at least 40 passengers at the time.
The incident took place when a bus (Ba 2 Kha 7245) plunged into the Sunkoshi River this afternoon. The ill-fated bus was travelling to Kathmandu from Magedeurali of Dolakha district. District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk's Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhav Kafle said that the casualties could rise since the accident is of big magnitude.
Dhak Prasad Timalsina, a local, shared that the team of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and locals were on the accident site, undertaking rescue efforts. According to him, some dead bodies were swept away by the river.
The rescue effort is underway, informed DSP Kafle. The critically injured ones have been sent to Kathmandu while others are receiving treatment at Sindhu Sadabahar Hospital. Detailed information of the incident is awaited, police said. Further details are awaited
