Kaski, Dec 11 : The Greater Watershed Management Centre, Gandaki, is preparing to recommend the federal government to immediately declare Phewa watershed conservation area meant for conserving Phewa Lake.
Such a demand was raised following an interaction programme between the people's representatives, civil society members and other stakeholders on Thursday citing that the catchment area of Phewa Lake was gradually shrinking.
Chief of District Coordination Kaski and Chairman of District Soil and Watershed Conservation Committee Bain Bahadur Adhikari Chhetri said that such step was taken as people's representatives from 10 different wards along the Phewa watershed areas gave a nod to declare Phewa conservation area.
Prior to this, the Supreme Court had given directives twice in 2012 and in 2018 to declare Phewa watershed conservation area.
The Greater Watershed Management Centre, Gandaki, has completed the tasks of consultations with the people in the catchment areas.
