By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Jan. 26: The Metropolitan Police Crime Division has arrested six individuals involved in robbing Rs. 5 million from Bachhu Ram Gurung, 63, on January 23.
According to the division, Bhim Bahadur Gharti Magar aka Bed Bahadur, Nakur Tamang, Dawa Tshering Tamang, Kumar Bahadur Budathoki, Tenjing Bahadur Tamang and Sanjit Waiba were arrested for their alleged involvement in the robbery.
All the six individuals were made public at a press meet organised at the division on Sunday. The robbers were arrested from various places of Kathmandu on Saturday.
Gurung was robbed on a road to Shantidham temple at Kavresthali area of Tarakeshwar Municipality at around 10 am on Thursday.
Gurung had reached there with Rs 5 million to buy a ‘glowing stone’ which Bed Bahadur said was with his grandfather. Gurung and Bed Bahadur knew each other personally as well.
“When Gurung went to buy the glowing stone, which Bed Bahadur did not have, he was robbed. We had intensified the search for the robbers after Gurung filed a complaint,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, chief of the division.
As per the investigating officers, Gurung was first threatened with sharp weapons and later chilly powder was thrown into his eyes by the robbers.
Of the robbed Rs. 5 million, police have seized around Rs 1.9 million from the robbers. Other than robbed money, the robbers were arrested with a motorcycle, a mobile phone and a gold ring which were bought from the robbed money. Some individuals also paid their loans with the money.
Three motorcycles used to rob Gurung were confiscated by the police.
“The group was not only involved in robbing Gurung, they have been involved in various cases of robbery prior to this. They have been handed over to Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, for further investigation and to proceed with the legal part of the case,” said Thapa.
