Kathmandu, Feb 23: A regular meeting of the National Security Council was held today. Prime Minister and National Security Council Chair KP Sharma Oli presided over the meeting.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's official residence Baluwatar focused on the discussion about the country's overall security condition and the election security.
Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, Chief Secretary Shanaker Das Bairagi and Army Chief Purna Chandra Thapa were present in the meeting, according to the ministry sources.
The constitution has the provision of the National Security Council with the Prime Minister as its chairperson for making recommendation to the Government of Nepal, Council of Ministers for the formulation of a policy on overall national interest, security and defence, and for the mobilization and control of the Nepali Army.
It consists of Minister for Defence, Minister for Home Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for Finance, Chief Secretary and the Army Chief as its members.
Secretary at the Defence Ministry works as the member-secretary of the Council which submits its annual report to the President and the same report is then presented to the Federal Parliament through the Prime Minister for discussions.
