Rajbiraj, Nov 28 : They say the best way to inspire people is to lead by example.
Towards this, a newly married couple from Saptari district took the lead to discourage dowry system, widely prevalent in Terai area, and use the money meant for their dowry for a social cause instead.
Resident of Madhavpur of Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality in the district Shailendra Chandra Jha, the bride's father, in full consent of his daughter Abhilasha and her in-laws, have donated some warm clothes to underprivileged children, women and elderly in their locality.
Bride Abhilasha and her father distributed warm clothes to as many as 250 women, 300 children and 24 senior citizens.
The bride and her father reached out to those elderly people coming from impoverished communities who could not come to the distribution ceremony owing to their health hazards at their respective houses to hand out the warm clothes here today.
Abhilasha had got married with Aamit Jha, son of Amarnath Jha of Balaanbihul Rural Municipality in Saptari district on Wednesday.
The groom and the bride side had consensually decided not to give and take the dowry in the marriage ceremony.
Instead, they chose to provide some respite to the needy children, women and elderly with warm clothes as winter is gradually setting in in the country, informed the bride's father.
Urmila Sada, one among the recipients of warm clothes, gushingly said, "Warm clothes distributed to the people like us who labour so hard to arrange two square meals a day will certainly help us fend off biting cold throughout the winter."
