Karnali, Jan 6 : Folks of Tila and Tatopani rural municipality in Jumla are being compelled to use kerosene lamps for light following massive flood and landslide events on last October 18. People have been forced to live in the dark when the flood blew away micro hydropower.
There has been no electricity in both the rural municipalities for over three months after the flood and landslides caused damages to five micro hydropower projects. With this locals have adopted temporary alternative measures for light.
Even locals are not getting electricity for charging mobile. Due to power disruption, rice mills are also not in operation.
Jamane Sunar, a local of Tila-4, Sanppulli village, commented that they were forced to survive an animal-like life owing to all-pervasive darkness since long.
"People use electricity for cooking meal, watching television and running industries. But, we are living a dark life in lack of power supply for a long time", he commented, asking who will bring electricity for the weaker section of the society.
The natural calamities had trigged bigger losses at Tila-4, Sanpulli, and Rawatwada, Nuwakot village. Likewise, the flood and landslides had eroded swathes of land at Tatopani-4, Hanku, Thanta, Gidikhola, Niyapani and ward 7 and 8.
It is very disheartening that the citizens affected from natural disasters have not so far received any relief package from the government, locals complained.
