By Our Correspondent, Tanahun, Nov. 22: On November 17, locals from Ward 6 of Byas Municipality contacted the police and informed them about a body.
A team led by Assistant Sub Inspector Basudev Kunwar from Shishaghat Police Station then headed towards the scene and secured it.
The deceased was Manena Kumal, an elderly from Gorkha. He had been living by begging in Byas Municipality.
A team led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Raj Mainali from the district police officer had also arrived at the site and investigated the death.
According to the police, Kumal was murdered after being hit three times by a stone in his head.
“We found a cap at the crime scene. We then started investigating the locals and searched for the cap’s owner,” said SP Mainali, who is also the chief at Tanahun District Police Office.
The police were able to identify the owner of the cap and arrest the murderer.
Organising a press conference at the district police office on Sunday, the murderer was identified as 19-year-old Mahendra Kumal, a local.
SP Mainali informed that Mahendra confessed the crime. He is now being investigated further and legal processes have begun.
