Baitadi, Oct 1: All Nepal-India border points in Baitadi and Darchula districts are to remain closed for three days in view of the District Panchayat and Village (Gram) Panchayat elections in bordering Indian districts Jhulaghat and Dharchula.
The election in Jhulaghat has been scheduled for October 5 and there is the decision to seal off the Nepal-India border in Baitadi for three days beginning from 5:00 pm of October 3 to 5:00 pm of October 5, Baitadi's Chief District Officer Ananda Poudel confirmed.
Similarly, in view of the second phase election to be held in Dharchula which shares border with Darchula district towards Nepali territory, the border is to be sealed off from 5:00 pm of October 14 to 5:00 pm of October 16. It is likely the decision will cause inconveniences to those Nepalis returning home for the Dashain celebrations.
The District Administration Office Baitadi said the route could be opened for emergency purposes through mutual understandings.
