Kathmandu, Mar. 13: The national gathering of All Nepal Women Association (ANWA) is going to be organised in Kathmandu on Saturday with a slogan “Let’s ensure women’s equality by fully implementing the Constitution”.
Organising a press meet on Friday, the association informed that more than10, 000 women from all over the country would assemble in the gathering.
Sita Poudel, coordinator of ANWA, said that the demand for a guarantee of 33 per cent participation of Nepali women in every sector was politically successful.
She informed that the gathering would raise the demand that the concept should be implemented in other areas as well.
“While demanding gender equality, we are organising the gathering with the aim of providing training to the women participants, to ensure meaningful participation of women not only in the political arena, but also economically, socially and culturally,” said Poudel.
Stating that cases of personal defamation had been increasing in the name of freedom of expression, Poudel said a collective voice would be raised in the coming days to create an environment where no one would make defaming statements.
Secretary of ANWA Sujita Shakya said at least 33 per cent participation of women should be ensured in all economic, political, social and other sectors.
Shakya said a special task force would be formed to end the heinous crimes like sexual assault, murder, violence and rape against women and children and demand immediate action against the perpetrators.
Central member and publicity coordinator of ANWA Sharmila Karki said the gathering was going to be organised in an effort to provide energy to increase women’s participation in politics in the upcoming election.
