Damak, Jan 9 : Six municipalities among the 15 local level units in Jhapa district have been distributing the National Identity Card. Kankaki, Damak, Birtamod, Bhadrapur, Arjundhara and Shivasatasi have so far distributed more than 200,000 national IDs.
A total of 200,209 people in the six municipalities have acquired their national ID, said assistant Chief District Officer of Jhapa Umesh Pandey.
The national ID distribution began two years ago in the district, but was lately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The national ID distribution began in the rural municipalities of the district on Friday. The target is to distribute it to 490,000 and half of it has already been done, he said. Every day six to eight teams are working at the ward level of the municipalities, and the distribution work will be completed soon.
Those left out are requested to come to the National Identity Card Management Office in Chandragadhi to avail of their national ID.
After Jhapa, the national ID distribution team will move to neighbouring Morang district.
