Myagdi, Jan. 5: Press Council Nepal chairperson Bal Krishna Basnet urged all the users for judicious usage of social networking sites.
At a programme organized by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Myagdi chapter at Beni today, chairperson Basnet asserted that social networking sites should be used as a tool for social change.
"It is necessary to make social networking sites a tool for social transformation rather than capitalizing on the convenience gotten due to advancement in information technology for amassing wealth," he reiterated.
Council's member Durga Bhandari shared that a nationwide awareness drive was launched to encourage compliance with the journalist code of conduct. Chief District Officer of Myagdi Chiranjivi Rana suggested one and all to exercise the right to information to make journalism credible and factual.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Kumar Rai spoke of the need for the media persons to be aware of the news they write on sub judice cases as such news could affect the investigation and judicial process.
District Postal Officer Sadhana Kumari Shrestha shared that the district postal officer had begun providing payment to the media houses for publishing the advertisement of public interest.
A total of 40 media persons attended the programme intended to sensitize them about the journalist's code of conduct.
