KMC launches Nepal Bhasa curriculum for class 1 to 4

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Mar. 13: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has launched a basic level local curriculum 'Yeh Dey Mhasike' that includes some theories and practical learning for class 1 to 4. 

The book was jointly launched by Education, Science and Technology Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha, and Mayor of the KMC Bidya Sundar Shakya, at a program organized by the KMC Education Department on Friday.

The curriculum that was launched on Friday was for class 1 to 4 which carries the full marks of 100 marks. However, the team is still working for the curriculum of classes 5-8.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Shrestha lauded the KMC for its historic and adventurous work in the field of local education.

"This step of KMC in line of promoting the local education has created a history," said Minister Shrestha, adding that the implementation of, “Let's know the Kathmandu,” from lower classes will add a new streak of opportunities to the locals speaking the native Nepal Bhasa and will minimize the communication gap as well.

Mayor Shakya informed that the curriculum has been prepared in such a way that students can learn some indigenous words like Yahmari, Maruhiti, Kwhiti and Thanhiti in the native language which helps students to assimilate the context on one side and on the other hand, it helps to promote the enriched Newari culture and language as well.

Mayor Shakya said that KMC has turned many challenges into opportunities while walking on the process of developing Nepal Bhasa curriculum.

He added that KMC is on the campaign to raise the standard of the community school. "Institutional schools will be automatically weakened if community schools are to be upgraded," he added.

On the occasion Deputy Mayor of KMC Hari Prabha Khadgi said that KMC has expected this education will strengthen the unity in diversity.

She said, "The education would be useful to provide information about Guthi-Traditions, Jatra-Parvala even in abroad." The KMC has decided to implement the textbook in every private and government schools under its area.
