By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Mar. 10: Indian ambassador to Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra Tuesday called on Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota at the latter’s office in Singha Durbar.

Kwatra assumed his office in Kathmandu last week succeeding Manjeev Singh Puri.

Kwatra congratulated the Speaker for his appointment to the post and extended wishes for a fruitful tenure.

Speaker Sapkota recalled long diplomatic relations between the two countries and said the strong people to people bonding was natural. Speaker Sapkota also appreciated the support India provided during the time of 2015 quake.

"In recent days, the two countries have made agreements for long run cooperation, I am happy for this," he added.

According to him, 73 years diplomatic relations have a strong natural bond between the people, parliament and governments of the two countries.  Speaker Sapkota also said that some of the issues were yet to be settled. "Powerful and stable governments are there in both sides, such opportunity arrives rarely," he said.

Kwatra is a senior experienced diplomat who served in the  Indian Foreign Service for the last 30 years. He was serving in France before he came to Nepal as an envoy. Kwatra said that the strong relations would be  further strengthened during his tenure.

The ambassador stated that peace, prosperity and development agendas were the pillars of Nepal-India relations. "All of the issues could be settled through dialogues," he said.
