Kanchanpur, Dec 4 : Deputy Speaker of Sudurpaschm State Assembly, Nirmala Badal Joshi said illiteracy was the main cause behind spiral of violence against women.
She made the remark at an interaction organized by National Haliya Liberation Society Kanchanpur in course of 16-day activism against gender-based violence at Bhimduttanagar on Tuesday.
'Generation of Equality: Solidarity for Efforts against Rape' has been set the main slogan of the campaign against violence.
Gender-based violence would be reduced only when an educated society was built, she added. "The freed Haliyas (previous bonded labourers) and Dalit communities which have come across several social oppressions are still not coming out from painful life", the deputy speaker said.
